Rick Smith, CPA | Principal of Counsel
Rick is a graduate of the University of South Florida (USF) and joined the firm in 1972. He is the former Managing Partner of the Sarasota Office and the former Partner-in-Charge of the Tax Department and was involved in tax and estate planning, tax compliance and benefit consulting. Even after retiring from the firm, Rick still assists clients as needed and is very involved in the community.
Rick currently volunteers his time in seven Board Member capacities. He has been named a Distinguished Alumni of the University of South Florida (USF) and was awarded the Sam Crosthwaite Memorial Award as “Outdoorsman of the Year” in Manatee County for his work with various outdoor and environmental organizations and children. Leadership Sarasota also awarded Rick the inaugural “Outstanding Alumni Service” Award and he is the Past President of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council.
Rick is a past president of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) and served two years on the Board of Governors of the FICPA. He currently serves as a Trustee of the FICPA Education Foundation. Rick has received the Certificate of Educational Achievement from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in Tax Planning for Closely Held Businesses.
